They created a real version of the robot BB8 from the new star wars film to create more realism to the film instead of always using CGI. It is very convincing as it makes the film look a lot more real than if it was just CGI and allows the actors to know what they are working with. SFX coordinator was Roger Guyett, he also worked on: 'Saving prvate Ryan' and 'Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone'  This small version of Hogwarts is used for filming shots of the exterior of the Hogwarts school. the set looks very convincing and I always assumed it was either a real building or CGI. yes and has saved a lot of time searching for a place that looks like what they were imagining and allows them to film all the parts inside the building on a different set. They use a lot of prosthetic make up in doctor who to create realistic looking aliens and not CGI characters. The special effects of doctor who has gotten better over time as camera quality ...
